Apple Updates the Mac Pro and the Xserve Rack

On the second day of CES ‘08 and after Intel introduced its new chip lineup, Apple has updated 2 of its pro machines. The new Mac Pro features Intel’s new 45nm quad-core Penryn Xeon 5400 CPU and starts at $2,800. Apple called the new Mac Pro the “fastest Mac we’ve ever made” featuring 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM, dedicated ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics, 320GB HDD, plus Bluetooth 2.0 and optional 802.11n. Apple also updated the Xserve rack server with Intel Xeon 5400 CPU at a starting price of $2,999. Called the “most powerful apple server ever”, up to 8-cores using 2 CPUs can be configured with 3 drive bays utilizing an optional RAID setup.
